I have just returned from a cruise that left from NY going to St. John, Bay of Fundy, Canada; Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; Bar Harbor and Portland Maine. I rode Amtrak from Raleigh to NY and back. It was a nice trip. No fall foliage photos. Totally skunked. Here are some other shots, though.

The Reversing Falls at St. John--earlier in the day falls flowing center to left
and a little later the falls flowing left to center due to the big tidal shift!

(130,956 posts)Did MD > MA/NH/VT by car last year, visited relatives and got some nice leaf-peeping. Thinking of doing it YOUR way next year!

(31,392 posts)while driving to/from Bay of Fundy on a very grey day, but the tour guide refused to stop. It was a photo excursion run by a professional photographer who gave some excellent tips. He ran us an hour longer than the scheduled tour as it was. Sigh.

(2,143 posts)Did you go inside? Considering the creative name of the business, I imagine the artisan crafts would be quite interesting to see.

(31,392 posts)Very creative name. I chose not to go in because I was on a tour and we had limited time. There was an abundance of photographic opportunities and that was my priority.

(31,392 posts)of 2000 passengers. Too big for me now. I've done cruises that size in the past, but I prefer the 400 passenger size. Of course they are much more expensive and I travel alone. Some Cruise lines on select cruises offer a 25% single supplement, but most Cruise lines charge the double price for a cabin for a solo traveler.

(149,627 posts)Even without the fall color, these are so lovely. Places I have never been, brought to life by you.
Thank you!

(31,392 posts)I had never been to Portland or that part of Canada. I was able to meet a girlfriend for lunch in Portland who lives only an hour away in New Hampshire. She told me next time I should come inland to the mountains for best fall color.

(31,392 posts)I was disappointed not to get some fall foliage shots, but pleased with a number of the shots I did get.

(19,459 posts)I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I do especially like the orangey boat and boathouse shot, but they are all great.

(22,380 posts)your photos are opening my vistas to a place I've never been. It looks like you enjoyed yourself - so many great shots. I keep looking at that dahlia - the color is divine.
Thank you for posting your travelogue. Great memories for you.

(31,392 posts)It was probably 4 ft tall and bent towards the ground. I practically had to stand on my head to get the shot. And the wind was blowing! Plus it was behind a fence.
It was a good trip. By the time we got to Bar Harbor though, I couldn't face another long day, so I didn't get off the ship. I took a lot of shots from my balcony while we were anchored in the bay, but the really only memorable one was the schooner with the orangey sails.
It was drizzling and very gray all morning in Portland. Not worth a bus tour. Cleared up about an hour before I met my friend for lunch. We took a walk after lunch and I stopped for a couple of shots, but mostly wanted to talk with her.
