I'm at Emerald Isle, NC with Snowy. Saturday we had a tremendous storm in the night through the early morning Sunday. The ocean was very angry. Then the sun came out for awhile, but clouded up again. This morning it's all gray.
Here are a few shots.
Saturday arrival. Snowy loves the beach.

(60,018 posts)we typically do Ocracoke, bit it won't be ready to visit until next year.
so, we are heading for the mountains next week instead for a few days.

(31,402 posts)trips next summer. Too hot, crowded, and expensive at the beach in summer. Typically, I come to Emerald Isle in May and/or October. Have never been to Ocracoke. it got slammed by Dorian, didn't it? Emerald Isle took a big hit last year from Florence. Tremendous amount of beach erosion. Big replenishment by the Town and planting of dune grass. I'll post some photos showing the difference.

(60,018 posts)The Hendersonville trip is to scope out the area for our possible next move.

(31,402 posts)Raleigh is so hot and humid in the summer. But I love all the entertainment I can walk to from my apartment the rest of the year.

(60,018 posts)rooms, it is time to finally downsize...being near Asheville sounds good to us (we are equal opportunity mountains or ocean for what we like to do) - just need a place for Sue to quilt and me to write.

(31,402 posts)And the one level. Snowy and I both like the elevator in the apartment and one level layout. I think this is probably her last beach trip. She's aging and struggling with the steps up to house and down to the beach, but so far, a trooper.
I'll be interested to hear what you think of Hendersonville and environs.

I love the one "Rays" so much! I'm glad you are there, having a good time, and got through the stormy time.

(31,402 posts)Are you back on Eastern time yet? It's always harder on me flying west to adjust.
Rays is growing on me. I like the slant of the rays one way vs the slant of the ocean waves breaking the other way vs the straight up and down of the dune fencing vs the horizontal stacking of the different elements of land, ocean, and sky. Definitely my favorite of about 20 different shots of the sun coming through the clouds at the time that I took.

(31,402 posts)I haven't seen anyone in the water. Pretty rough surf most of the time I've been here so far.
