Some are pretty pregnant and will drop fawns next month.

They seem to listen with their feet. Who knew?

(16,254 posts)I often have them give birth in the wooded area behind me. They use the wooded part that is fenced in as a playpen where they leave the fawns and come back in the late afternoon to pick them up. So much fun to watch (as long as they stay out of my perennials.)
Enjoy!

(13,539 posts)There is a small wooded area behind us I call the nursery. Eventually they bring the fawns to our backyard and sometimes leave them while they graze in the field. Im watching some right now grazing in the back.

(5,641 posts)We used to have deer in our backyard and they would have their babies there.
After we had a home invasion attempt, my wife and I decided to put a fence around our property and security lights.
No more deer. Sad.

(12,396 posts)Last Mother's Day, my friend took a flat of pansies to his aunt for dinner. She told him to leave the plants on the front steps and we'll plant them after dinner, then have coffee and desert.
They finished dinner, then opened the front door to see the last of the pansies disappear down a doe.
Nice pictures, anyway.

(14,559 posts)Squirrels are a mess too. Just walk around and be obvious and it's all good but hunker down in a hide and they bark, growl and generally make make damn sure everything around knows you're there.
Used to hunt but find photography much more challenging.

(266 posts)They are in my yard every night and eat everything I have planted. I no longer find them beautiful.

(14,559 posts)They aren't a deer favorite so they didn't get eaten, just pulled up and tasted. Coffee grounds are a mild repellent and all the local nurseries classify plants as deer repellent or not.
Like squirrels and bird feeders you just have to find a work around.

(16,254 posts)the house, but did eat the petunias in the flowerbeds. So, I decided to sprinkle cayenne pepper on the plants and see if that works. I also use "Deer and Rabbits" or Rabbits and Deer spray, which works great, but you have to spray again after a rain. Once they get a hint of the smell, they don't come back. It DOES smell.
The florist recommended I put hotel soap bars around the plants and they will leave it alone. I also heard Irish Spring soap shavings work well.

(5,415 posts)My little corner of the globe is in shutdown.
I'm guessing the local parks, complete with ponds and water birds, don't see too many people there feeding the ducks.
BUT . . .
The ducks - 2 breeding pairs, by the looks - come and visit, to paddle around in our neglected, deep green pool, and eat the seeds and wholegrain bread my wife brings out to feed them.
One pair is so tame, they see my wife coming with the food and excitedly quack their demand for her to hurry up.
I think that pool is going to stay the color it is. Until the ducks stop coming, anyway.
