Celebration
(15,812 posts)All are nice but just love that shot of the Shuttle at night. Very interesting that it has orange in it.
Crepuscular
(1,057 posts)The shot of the Shuttle was a very special moment for me. The mission was STS-134, the last flight for Endeavour and it was also the mission that Mark Kelly, Gabby Gifford's husband was the Commander for. I'm good friends with the Pilot for that mission and was invited to a special night time viewing for family members and guests of the astronauts, of the shuttle on the pad the night before the launch. We had gotten to meet the crew earlier in the day and then returned in the evening to see the shuttle on the pad. It was a really amazing experience. I was also supposed to see the launch the following day from the VIP viewing stand but unfortunately a problem was detected a few hours before launch and it was scrubbed. Due to work considerations I couldn't come back to Florida to see the launch when it actually happened about a week later, although my wife was able to go. It was still a thrill to be able to see the shuttle on the pad from such close range and to meet the crew. I must have taken about 500 pictures that weekend.
