People of China

When I was in China, I took a lot of pictures of things (buildings, flowers, landscapes, etc.), but I think the people pictures give a much better sense of what it's like to be there. I found the people to be very happy, very family oriented, and very friendly. I hope you get a sense of that when looking at these.

When I was in China, the country was on a 8 day national holiday. This brought many people to the tourist destinations from rural areas that had never seen western people in person before. Many of them treated us like celebrities. They would get their kids to wave. Many wanted pictures with us. They would come up and talk to us. Naturally most didn't speak English and we didn't speak their language, but it was big fun to interact with them.

The police and army pictures were a bit risky. They tend to frown on people taking pictures of officials in uniform. I think that's why the traffic cop was giving me a glaring look. I used my 180/2.8 so I could stand off from a distance to take their picture, but I still managed to get caught a time or two.
