Oh my, just three months of marriage for the Golden Bachelor.......

The sun has set on “The Golden Bachelor’s” Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s marriage.

Just three months after marrying in a live televised ceremony, the two announced their plans to divorce on “Good Morning America” Friday.

“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations,” Turner said,“We’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and we’ve come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”

Nist added, “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.”

1. I've never watched any of these shows but wonder how many 'relationships' actually last

I also wonder why the 'sanctity of marriage' crowd isn't attacking shows like 'The Bachelor' and the spin offs. They just seem to make a desperate mockery of marriage.

But the most successful amount of marriages have come from Big Brother. And a few from Survivor. It can be done.

Apparently they are still going strong. The only other couple I remembered was Ethan and Jenna (I think that was her name). That lasted for a while - through his cancer fight - but now he's married to someone else. I stopped watching the show years ago but LOVED the first 5 or 6 seasons. Africa and Pearl Island - great shows. Ethan and Rupert were my favorites. Then it started to get just too predictable. AND it reminded me of what I was going through at my workplace. Unfortunately, I was never given the option to vote the villain 'off of the island'.

6. I still watch. Survivor is a shell of itself.

The characters change clothes, eat, and don’t strategize. A lot of whining and wanting to be liked. It’s gotten weird.

They met on The Bachelor or Bachelorette and went on to do Survivor together. Ryan's been battling a bad case of Lyme disease.

7. Especially a reality TV show where the whole point is for the "star" to pick one of several candidates to marry.

As if marriage is a game show prize or something. Admittedly, I've never watched any of the Bachelor type shows, but that's my understanding, and it seems really weird and artificial to me.

There are other types of reality shows where I can imagine two people bonding over a shared experience and a relationship growing from that, but competing against a bunch of other contestants to be chosen by someone in an artificially cotrived set of circumstances seems loony to me.

8. 'artificial' is being too kind

and then you have to have some questions involving the personality that chooses to be a 'contestant' on a hokie reality show ...

...but from the ads I could only say the Golden Bachelor looked peculiar.
