Justified - Season Three - Episode One - Spoilers

We get a pretty kick ass scene with Raylan (Olyphany) and Boyd (Goggins) before we even get to the opening credits. It ends with the two of them going at each other and through a window. These two are simply magic when they are on the screen together... I mean, they are both excellent actors but put them in the same scene... They just mesh so well and really bring out the best in each other.

The episode mainly serves a few things. First is the Raylan is not at the top of his game. Getting shot at the end of last season has him both physically and mentally off a bit. It also shows though that he is not above admitting he is off and making mistakes. The second main thing this episode has is the introduction of Quarles, the new big bad guy, a ruthless drug dealer from the big city who has come to fill the void left by Mags death and show the hicks how it's done.

A few notable scenes were Ava cracking Deville in the head with a frying pan because he won't take orders from her (She is relaying Boyds orders while he is in jail for the opening fight scene). Also the episode bad guy in Fletcher was outstanding, just the right mix of menace and humor.

A really good episode with some nice potential for the season. I'm expecting Raylan and Boyd teaming up in a very uneasy way to get rid of Quarles and a higher then par body count for the season.

This is my favorite show, along with Sons of Anarchy. The new Big Bad is awesome, and poor Dicky might be in a little trouble now that Boyd is in the same jail as him. Gonna be a great season.

WOW do I love this show or what? I absolutely agree about the chemistry between Olyphant and Goggins, it is electrifying and mesmerizing. I was sort of sad to see Boyd throw away his freedom over something so silly, but I guess his intent was to get to Dickie. Kinda a stupid move if you ask me. Also, it's nice to see whats-his-name (Boyd's prior sidekick, hanging with Dickie now).

In the season previews when they showed the actor playing Fletcher, I wondered if he was being written out of Dexter (was he? I can't remember) but looks like it was only a temporary situation. Similar to Dexter, I like how some actors are doing Special Guest Star roles on Justified (especially guys from Deadwood). I wonder if eventually they'll keep them for a whole season like they did with Lithgow and Hanks and Olmos and Carridine.

I'm sad to see the Bennett clan gone. Mags was so great. That last scene with her and Raylan was so well done.

So we're gonna have a baby!

Season 3 is already shaping up to do the same. I can not say enough about this show. With all the crap on tv, it is an intense pleasure (and surprise) to see such a quality show with excellent writing and even better (if possible) acting.

Mags was wonderful last year. She was irreplaceable, but I think they do need another strong female in the mix, now that both Mags and Raylon's Aunt are dead.
