I'm rewatching "Rome" on DVD...for about the 6th time...

The first season is still incredible...what a great show. HBO ruined the second season because they only renewed it for one more, letting them know it was the final season. They crammed too much into it, it didn't have the drawn out plots and subplots the first season did that made it so great...the second season was clearly meant to be two seasons...I wish it were still going on, there is so much they could have done with it.

I really love "Rome" Too! I watched it when it first ran on cable and bought both seasons too.

Ohhhhh the battles between the roman women are epic!
This series did make Cleopatra a little ferral for my taste but........ LOL! the production is so good that I can live with that.

Not the typical great beauty she is portrayed as being...she's almost sort of boyish looking, and I wonder if that was the point when they cast the actress.

Plus I doubt very seriously that Cleo wouldve spent any time with a mere soldier in bed. LOL!
She was in a very percarious position until she hooked up with Ceasar. Female Royality had to make strategic partnerships even with relatives to make and keep power.

They find Pompey...and of course it is when Varenus finds out his wife has cheated that he leaves Caesar and that's why he's killed.

there was quite a bit of shocking Drama with several of the charactors. My Faverot story thread was between the cousin? or sister?of Ceasar and his ageing mistress.( Its been a couple of years since I watched it) Whoa! Hell hath real fury!

of his life, Sevillia, who is the mother of Brutus...and legend has it Caesar was actually Brutus' biological father...they certainly imply that it's possible in this series.

The writters of "Rome' were just superb.

As a matter of fact whe we first watched Lucy Lawless in Sparticus Blood and sand Her charactor reminded me alot Of Atia and Sevilla's charactors in "Rome"

A Rome feature film is becoming less of a “maybe some day” and more of a “definitely soon.” At the end of 2008 it was reported here that series co-creator Bruno Heller wanted to see Rome rise again. There doesn’t seem to be much holding it back now, with the script having been completed and the stars having a desire to film it.

HBO may be realizing that they prematurely cancelled Rome, a co-production with the BBC. The program shows the violent transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. Heller had a multi-year plan for the series but, when he learned the it was ending after the second season, he hurried his story along. The series stars Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson, and also features Indira Varma, David Bamber, Chiara Mastalli, Manfredi Aliquo, Suzanne Bertish, Max Pirkis, Lee Boardman, Esther Hall, and Ciaran Hinds.

Despite the fact that Heller seemed to kill off McKidd’s character, Lucius Vorenus, he left himself an out. Vorenus was indeed seriously wounded and appeared to die, but his body was never shown being sent to the afterlife. Heller explains, “It was very deliberate that we saw him drifting away, but didn’t see him atop a funeral pyre.” Kidd himself even adds in, “I never closed my eyes!”

what the show could have been like if they hadn't been cancelled, showing the reign of Emperor Augustus in the detail that it deserved, rather than condensing it into one season. That and chronicling the reigns of other emperors as well.
