The decision was cast as the choice of the producers. In a statement, they said: The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air.
But over the last several months, there had been intense negotiations over a potential new deal that would extend the series for one more season, which would have been the shows ninth. But television shows that run past their first seven years always encounter expensive new financial deals, and it had been widely reported that Fox was trying to bring the show back at a sharply reduced cost.
Any potential new deal was complicated by the fact that House was not owned by Fox, but by NBCUniversal. That meant that the shows ancillary profits which have been considerable because House is among the most popular television shows in the world went completely to the studio, not to its network.
I'm not big on medical shows. I tried House but never really loved it like many people do.

(4,851 posts)I loved the first two seasons, then lost interest. I never bought into caring about the characters. Olivia Wilde as "13" brought me back to watch one episode where she has a very sexy love scene, but otherwise, I left this show some time ago.

(1,999 posts)He's fantastic in the role, but I just don't like the character he plays.

(4,851 posts)Its hard to like him. Hugh Laurie is a solid actor, I enjoy him playing the role too. For me the show got old quickly. I did nto care much for any of the characters and once I saw 20 patients of the week, I was about done.

(20,043 posts)this is one of my favorite shows. I love House the character. If my oldest brother were a doctor, that's how he'd be. Yeah, he can be an ass, but a lovable one. This is one of the shows hubby and I watch together.
Oh well, everything ends eventually.

(2,135 posts)Oh well, all good things must come to an end and eight seasons is a very good run. The thing that I'm most bummed out about it ending, I guess, is that Stephen Fry will now never be a guest on the show. That would have been completely awesome.
