Apple Annie's Orchard loses fruit crop in cold front

You-pick fruit will be unavailable during the summer

Apple Annie's Orchard says it will not have you-pick fruit for the summer season after a cold front left many of its crops frozen.

In a Facebook post, Apple Annie's shared that temperatures dropped below 20 degrees for an extended period in April, resulting in the loss.

The cherry and peach crops were completely lost in the freeze while around 90 percent or more of the apple and pear crops were lost.

Apple Annie's writes that it plans to open as usual in July.

Ed at the feed store in Benson never used to sell garden plants until after the 15th of April. Always a freeze. I lost a Euryops Daisy, a 5 or 6 year old Adenium, and 3 year old Jujube I had started from seed. probably from lack of water rather than frost. oops.

outside of more than a few degrees over large acreage in an economical way, so this news is sad; but, this is also a diversified farm and should hopefully be able to sustain this season's catastrophic orchard fruit crop failure(s). Hopefully, the the next season's prospects will be better for the trees in the orchard and Tuscon won't suffer crippling spring and summer drought.

When we lived in Tucson, Patty and I would go there for peaches in the summer and apples in the fall.
I would annoy her by singing "Shady Grove" as we picked fruit.
Near by Hunsden's Farm was a good source for vegetables, and there was a catfish farm along the way home where we could catch the main entree for dinner!
