Cup It Up American Grill closed for good on Monday, three days after two of its owners posted a politically charged statement on Facebook that prompted angry social media backlash and calls to boycott the University of Arizona-area restaurant.
Julian Alarcon, a former partner who was not involved in Fridays Facebook post, said the restaurant at 760 N. Tyndall Ave. was the target of harassing and threatening phone calls throughout the weekend. Two employees quit Saturday because of the calls and several more quit throughout the weekend, he said.
Its not worth it, said Alarcon, the operating partner and chef who resigned Saturday morning in response to the Facebook post from partners Christopher Smith and Jay Warren.
The pairs post laid out their political beliefs that included support for President Trump, standing for the national anthem and repealing Obamacare, and opposition to fake news and the concept of global warming.

(9,729 posts)The best bit of advice my father ever gave me was, "Son, you don't shit where you eat." I hope the restaurant's employees find other jobs quickly. It wasn't their fault that their employers were stupid.

(767 posts)I think these guys have the right to express their FREE SPEECH. I think people have the right to spend their money and support this business. This state is very RED so these guys thought they could get away with their IDEA. Only time will tell when this country wakes up and becomes a BETTER place versus a CONSERVATIVE PLACE.......

(700 posts)Why the push for welfare recipients to be drug tested? Well, truth be told, I do know why.
But if the pretense is for those receiving government money to be drug tested, then why not also those who receive unemployment checks or those who receive disability or those who receive government deductions by declaring children on tax forms or those CEOs and Board members whose corporations receive huge tax breaks?
Why not them, too? Why just welfare recipients???
