Ex-bookkeeper in Tucson sentenced to 3 years in prison for embezzlement

A former bookkeeper for a law enforcement organization was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing more than $195,000 from the organization.

Mary McNabb, the former bookkeeper for the Arizona Conference of Police and Sheriff's, was also sentenced to seven years probation by Pima County Superior Court Judge Janet Bostwick, according to a news release from Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich.

AZCOPS had contacted the Tucson Police Department after it discovered suspicious bookkeeping payments, according to the news release. Tucson detectives determined that McNabb issued more than $195,000 in false payments to herself during the two years she worked for AZCOPS, which represents law enforcement officers around the state. Credit card statements indicate McNabb used the money to pay for personal expenses such as dinner and shopping.

McNabb pleaded guilty to one count of theft and one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices.

Bostwick also ordered McNabb to pay $227,749 in restitution to AZCOPS.
