At 98, Phoenix physician decides it's finally time to retire

Retirement did not suit him well the first time around, but Dr. C. Dale Collins says at 98, he's ready to give it another try.

Collins, a Maricopa Integrated Health System attending physician who turns 99 next month , spent his last day at work in the health system's women's clinic on Friday.

"I broke my hip a year ago. That slowed me down," Collins said as he walked through the clinic recently, aided by a cane. "My parents always told me it's better to wear out than rust out."

An affable presence in the women's clinic, Collins is known by co-workers for his cheerful, daily, "Top o' the morning to you," greetings, meticulous patient notes, strong work ethic and humility.
