California just approved one of the strictest mandatory vaccine laws

Science trumps hocus pocus!

The California Assembly struck down the personal belief exemption that allows parents to opt kids out of vaccinations for religious reasons. "Under the new rules, only children with serious health problems (such as a compromised immune system) would be exempt from mandatory vaccination schedules, and those who opt out will have to be homeschooled."

Now we wait and see if the governor will sign it.

Brown is a fairly pragmatic, no BS type of governor. This is funny because he's the first guy in a while to take control and make some headway in a state many people were calling "ungovernable." This is such a contrast to the image he got back when he was dating Lida Ronstadt and Mike Royko named him "Governor Moonbeam."

other two states that don't allow a religious exception: had I been asked, those would not have been in my first 35-40 guesses.

Still, it looks like the loophole most CA opt-outers have been using isn't religious specifically, but rather 'personal,' and as the article points out, barring that exemption is much more common: "Thirty-two other states bar vaccination exemptions based on personal or moral beliefs."
