It will take 29 years for college grads to save 20% down on SF home, study shows (xpost from GD)

According to a new Trulia study, it will take the average Bay Area college grad approximately 29 years to save 20% down for a typically priced home. For those prospective buyers with no degree, forget it. By this study’s calculations, that 20% down savings is impossible for millennials who didn’t earn a college degree. The gallery above gives a picture of what the San Francisco market looks like now. In the future, it’s going to be even worse, from the buyer’s perspective.

Method

Trulia says, “Our study calculates how many years it will take a millennial (young adult aged 25-30) to save a 20% down payment in the 100 largest U.S. metros assuming that home prices and incomes will increase over time – with and without a college degree.” Of course, the whole study projects into the future. By the time these grads begin looking for homes, prices will be higher still than they are today. To estimate how much the required down payment will grow over time, Trulia uses the 20-year Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) home price growth rate for each of the 100 largest U.S. metros based on current median prices.

This information is then correlated with potential household income grow

It is our most liberal city with Democratic leadership for decades. Something drastic needs done like immediately cut housing costs by 70 percent. Pass a bill saying a home can not be sold for more then 200k. This is embarrassing news for a progressive city.

he proposed a moratorium on luxury housing construction in the Mission District, the epicenter of gentrification. Alas, it failed. Believe it or not, the Third Way types, led by mayor "Mr." Ed Lee, are in control of the Board of Supes.

And commute for well over an hour each way. Over two toll bridges, if you're foolish enough to drive.

And i have no idea if they have term limits (KJ in Sac is basically Mayor for Life ).

Did you know? He won one election by one goddamn vote. That was counted, anyway.

Have every same-sex couple in Northern California flock, not just to V-Town, but to City Hall to perform their nuptials. And swell the city's coffers with the receptions. Or take them elsewhere, pointedly.

of Osby Davis' followers would hold a prayer session in front of city hall a couple of times a week just to be insulting. The other guy, name escapes me, ended up losing his job in S.F. so he had to take a job in Florida. He would have been a way better mayor.

and I'm not sure what happened there. I had to move for my job about 3 years ago. Overall though it's still a good democrat run city.
