ON EDIT: THE GRAPHIC IS WRONG: MUST REGISTER AS DEMOCRAT!
Make sure your voter registration is correct and accurate!
Make sure your correct and CURRENT address is listed!
Make sure your party is DEMOCRAT! The graphic is wrong. Not my graphic, I can't change.
Make sure the name on the voter registration form is EXACT match to your driver's license or other ID
Make sure your Driver's license is at your CURRENT address! (Pull it out of your wallet now and double check,
you'd be surprised at what you forget!)
DOUBLE check online, including close to the deadline to make sure nothing happens in between!
THERE have been irregularities in almost EVERY state to date, of ALL KINDS. Who knows what may happen. The people of California deserve to be heard in a free, fair and honest election and Bernie has vowed to stay in it so you will be! Keep this bumped, and share the info widely online and elsewhere.

(24,010 posts)To register for voting in the Democratic Party primary in California, DO NOT check any box with the word "independent" in it. Register as "NO PARTY PREFERENCE" (which used to be known as "Decline to state" or Democratic Party.
Thank God some celebrities got fooled by this (the American Independence Party's deceptive name--it's a far rightwing minor party) and it got out there into the Corporate Media monopolies as a result. The Corrupt Media doesn't tend to give a crap about anybody else's rights. But celebrities, wheee! Anyway, their assholeness worked in our favor in this instance.
I think I read the figure of 500,000 Californians got fooled by the AIP, thinking they were registering as "independents" but actually registering as AIP. They will NOT be able to vote in the Dem primary unless they re-register by May 23, as Democratic or "No party preference."
CALIFORNIANS, CHECK ON YOUR REGISTRATION!
One other thing: You may not qualify for a mail-in ballot if your registration is done in May. Mail-in ballots in my county are being sent out in EARLY MAY. If you register or re-register in May, you will likely have to go to your polling place on June 7.

(24,010 posts)You will need to change the graphic.
If you register as "No Party Preference" (NPP) in Calif., YOU MUST REQUEST A DEMOCRATIC PARTY BALLOT in order to vote for Sanders on June 7.
I just found this at the CA SOS site and added the text to your other thread. Here's the web site:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/political-parties/no-party-preference/
It's rather confusing fine print. I had to read it 3 times. But I am sure of it. You MUST REQUEST THE DEM BALLOT (or you will get a more generic ballot with no Dem prez candidates).

(10,336 posts)and forward it to me and I will change the post, or you can just make a new OP if you'd like? This was just something I got off of Facebook, and I have updated my postings there and advised my fellow Berneres to change it.

(23,156 posts)I registered as an Independent. For one thing, I didn't want to be out there with my party preference, even though I always preferred the Democrats. For another, I didn't understand the importance of voting in a primary. I can't recall exactly, but I think it was about 1982 when I understood why I should register with the party that I really did affiliate with.
I also understand why the political parties want to control who gets to vote in their primaries. So, if you favor the Democrats, register as one. If you favor the Republicans, same advice. I suppose that if you honestly don't give a flying fuck, then registering as an independent makes sense.
Me? I will probably be a registered Democrat until I'm so ga-ga I don't know my own name.

(23,156 posts)I'm on Medicare, which I just love! I want to see us transition to Medicare For All.
And I'm totally for Bernie. If he doesn't get the nomination, I'll be strongly inclined to say fuck it and not vote at the Presidential level come November.
