Salinas was the lone California city that reported zero days of unhealthy air quality. Salinas likely benefits from coastal breezes, the association said.
"Central Coast residents can certainly be proud of the air quality progress in their region," said Olivia Diaz-Lapham, CEO of the American Lung Association in California.

(78,249 posts)Monterey itself (for the most part), Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel, down to Big Sur. The rest of the county (Salinas, King City, etc.) is heavily Latino and agricultural (most of the country's lettuce comes from the Salinas Valley).

(6,476 posts)The Richie's....glad inland is still agricultural but with the drought probably hurting.
We left CA when the writing was on the wall in the '70's. I went back for a while in the late 90's, then headed north for a while. Now I'm happy to be back east on the home place...climate disruption is going to change everything.

(78,249 posts)Only the north end of the county is $iliValley. South of San Jose, you have Morgan Hill, which produces some nice red wines, and Gilroy, which does in fact smell like garlic.
