A former San Francisco police lieutenant charged with interfering with a rape investigation involving another officer was arrested Wednesday and booked into County Jail, police said.
Lt. Curtis Liu, who is retired from the San Francisco Police Department, is suspected of telling Officer Jason Lai, his friend and then-fellow officer at Taraval Police Station in the Sunset, that he might be a suspect in a rape investigation after he saw Lais name on an incident report, the San Francisco Examiner has previously reported.
Liu then allegedly tried to keep the investigation from focusing on Lai, which led to Liu lying to his superior officers and allowing the police report about the rape to be filed without a name attached to the suspect, according to the District Attorneys Office.
Lai was accused of raping a woman he had met on-duty. Lai allegedly went with the woman to her home after taking her on a date. He is suspected of raping her after the pair drank six or seven whiskeys, the San Francisco Examiner previously reported.
The hits just keep on coming.
