Nearly 3,000 flags planted around Occidental College to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks were trashed and crushed early Sunday, a group says.
Members of the Occidental College Republican Club discovered the destruction early Sunday on the Eagle Rock campus as well as fliers, they said, that shamed the victims of 9/11. The flier, which displayed the image of the two World Trade Center towers, included the message: R.I.P. The 2,996 Americans who died in 9/11. R.I.P. the 1,455,590 innocent Iraqis who died during the U.S. invasion for something they didnt do.
This is beyond politics, this is about those lives that were so tragically taken, the club said in the statement on Facebook.
Students placed the 2,997 flags in the campus quad on Saturday night in preparation for the 15th anniversary of the terror attacks, according to the club, which sponsored the memorial.

(66 posts)What vandals are going to pull 3000 flags out of the ground and carry them to a trash can? Seems like a lot of effort. I would think those vandals would want to take less time by just kicking them over.
No police report was filed.
It was reported, campus security was called and that campus security stayed overnight, but apparently didn't get involved when a group of four came up to these republicans and started breaking flags.
It is also odd, these four individuals were not photographed, but 15 republicans were there with camera phones.
A now-retracted statement, because of a tremendous amount of racism followed, by these republicans claimed a couple of black girls rode or walked their bicycles over some of these flags.
These girls also seem to have gotten away without being photographed.
There is also an issue with the time from which those flags were planted to the time these republicans just happened to walk by the flags prior to calling it a night.
