You know who wasnt even mildly surprised? The people working at The Southern Poverty Law Center.
The organization dedicated to monitoring hate groups and extremists in the United States has documented a nearly 300% increase in anti-Muslim hate groups since 2015 and a drastic rise in overall harassment incidents in the last two years.
2016 was an unprecedented year for hate, Mark Potok, the editor of the groups yearly Intelligence report, said. The country saw a resurgence of white nationalism that imperils the racial progress weve made, along with the rise of a president whose policies reflect the values of white nationalists.
They documented 917 hate groups, which they define as groups with beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics, actively operating in the U.S. Heres where every state falls:

(27,813 posts)1. It would be useful to have a per capita number.
I wish the count was zero everywhere, but obviously California is going to have more of anything than, say, South Dakota.

(17,863 posts)2. It has by far the largest population
So you would think that it would be in the running for the most in most situations.

(19,814 posts)3. That's ironic
Since it's one of the bluest states as well.
I hope that irks them hard.

(51,598 posts)4. That is probably one reason they are so pissed off.
The poor things want CA to be more racist so they are doing their part to even things out.

(28,136 posts)5. This is misleading
A per capita number would be much more accurate.
