(15,031 posts)the top 2 vote getters from the primary. So the general would most likely end up being Issa and a Democrat. And whoever that Democratic candidate proved to be, they'll have an excellent opportunity to best Issa.
It's conceivable the General Election could be between Issa and a second Republican, but I'd be amazed if a Democrat doesn't end up on the General Ballot.

(2,574 posts)Issa was considered an absolute shoe in (started with a double digit lead) yet Applegate's smart, direct, inexhaustible small donor campaign squeaked Issa's win margin to less than 1%. Issa's jig is up, and Applegate will topple him next cycle.
And maybe this time the DNC, DSCC will be smarter, more timely and appropriate in their donations to Applegate.
