San Diegos legal pot stores could run short of recreational marijuana this summer when the seasonal rise in tourism sends the demand for cannabis soaring in a city thats emerged as a mecca for the sale of weed.
Analysts and retailers say the government hasnt been approving cultivation licenses fast enough to meet anticipated demand. And the state is preparing to prevent the sale of cannabis that doesnt meet quality control standards, which could tighten the supply.
There is a worry among our members that there could be a shortage over the summer, said Dallin Young, executive director for the Association of Cannabis Professionals, a San Diego-based trade group.
With the increase in tourists, in addition to the already high demand among San Diegans, there just might not be enough adult-use cannabis to go around.

(51,642 posts)The amount of tax you pay varies from one dealer to the next. This includes both delivery and dispensary. The flower seems to get a City tax but a vaping cartridge isn't. When I got my med. ref. renewed last week the person there verified this since I had been looking at my receipts and couldn't figure it out. There is a State tax but that was supposed to be 15% but it isn't. It is more like 10%. There doesn't seem to be a shortage NOW so maybe I'd better stock up. The prices are NOT cheap! $45 for 3.5 gr for good stuff, $57 for top shelf flower. A vape cartridge is about $68, the best deal.
