Any ideas on DMV license renewal??? No appointments available

Last edited Sun Mar 22, 2020, 11:33 PM - Edit history (2)

So my license expires in two months. I have tried for two months to get an appointment for ReALID with no luck. Before Covina-19, I planned to just go wait all day. My husband and I are high risk so I will not do that. Today, I tried to renew regular license but again no luck. Won’t let me renew online and can’t get an appointment

Any solutions?

To clarify: My Drivers License will expire soon. I can’t renew online. Says I’m not eligible. I think you have to take test after automatic renewal a few times

Update:

Wrote email to state legislator district office and got email back on a Sunday. DMV has a procedure for extensions and he’ll send me instructions tomorrow with a link to forms to file to request extension. Thanks all!!

Not just the RealID.

Don't know what the answer is, but considering the fact that the IRS is letting us file taxes late, I'm guessing "pandemic" is a reasonable excuse for not renewing.

Worst case scenario is a fix-it ticket if you get pulled over.

You might have to avoid places that are really strict on carding if you want booze or cigs.

IOW, it's likely you don't need it renewed all that badly.

but I need a smog check. So I mailed in the registration fee, and I think I auto shops are still open, so I might try for on this week.

My advice is to pay whatever fees are due, then figure out a local elected official to contact to advise you if you need that RealID.

Do you really want to get on a plane right now?

N.J. extended the expiration dates of licenses that were to expire.

for trying to do the right thing. My license is up for renewal in early November - but who know's where we will be by then?

Seriously, if there is a dollar number on that piece of paper the CA DMV sent you, mail them a check. Then, seriously, contact your state assemblyman. (I don't know where you live, so I can't give you a name). However, I think that even in these times, they will be good about getting back to a constituent.

It's probably true that no one is going to bust you for a DMV violation right now, but I know you will feel better being legal.

6. I renewed my regular license online a couple months ago.

I seem to recall the navigation being weird - I had to click on a couple links to confirm that I did indeed want an old style driver's license. At first I thought I couldn't do it because of how confusing the wording was - but nevertheless I persisted.

When I get on my laptop later today, I'll see if I can map out the navigation.

I think I’ve renewed too many times so I’m automatically sent in to take test. No problems on my driving record that I know about.

13. I'd call them and see if they can restore your online eligibility given the present circumstances.

They may not be able to, but perhaps there is an extension they can enable by clicking a few buttons. It can't hurt to try. And if they can't, you could ask them what they would advise you do.

We can get 1 or 2 year option. I always get two year. It due in May this year so in the next few weeks the application will come in and I’ll order it online. Stickers will come end of April.

The DMV is 1/2 a block from my apt and usually has looooong lines. The paper from the DMV says I can renew it on line or by mail if I don't want the Real ID kind. Oct 1, 2020 is the date you will need one to travel within the US but you can still use your passport, etc for all the things a RealID covers. I am renewing mine without the RealID and will get it when this mess is all figured out.

Hi, In may places these emergency orders will leave expired id as valid for an extended period past the deadline. NY State has automatically extended by at least 2 months any expirations coming up march, april and may, so far.

don't know if it's the same in every state. Recently my nephew had his renewal notice come in the mail, so sent it in. When he got it, it was the new enhanced one, so he did not have to do that in person.

a certain number of times -3 or 4- but then yoi have to go in, get an eye test and a new photo and generally have to demonstrate you’re still alive and functional.

In normal times- like the last time I had to do it- it takes ~10 minutes with an appointment. Nowadays...
