(6,476 posts)I don't know. I put it in the Starbucks locator, but had to guesstimate the distance. I bet it was more before the last store closing overhaul.
And only 1 in a 25 mile radius (and probably more).

(3,991 posts)I remember at one point on Capital hill in Seattle, there was actually a Starbucks across the street from another starbucks. This was the region:
https://maps.google.com/
Google maps now lists 10 within 1 mile from that spot. Near Starbucks headquarters.

(40,416 posts)They do much business here in the Manistee National Forest. Most of the roads here are not paved. Certainly my road isn't.
The nearest town, about 10,000 population -- plus college students during the school year -- has no Starbucks. There's a Bigbee's coffee shop in town, but they're horrible, worse than Starbucks. When did burnt coffee become good?
I percolate French Roast every morning, better than $6.00 cups of undrinkable swill. I can have a Grande size any time I want.

(179 posts)14 miles is the closest. Never been there though

(8,377 posts)Several have closed.
Turns out that a lot of people have figured out that buying a cup of coffee there each morning on the way to work adds up to $1000 a year, and that's if you don't buy the biscotti.

(13,812 posts)I would guess around 12.
Only because that would cover the entire city.

(90 posts)Two each in two different shopping centers. And the sad part? The shopping centers are one block from each other, which means two of the Starbucks being on the same street.
It used to be none in that general area. The number exploded here in the past few years, obviously, but it kinda sneaked up on me. I actually just noticed how all of these stores were so close earlier today.
Needless to say, I support my local coffeehouses.

(22,271 posts)I'm not kidding. And I see people lined up to get their overpriced burnt-tasting coffee all the time. I don't get it.

(2,682 posts)there are two Starbucks in the same shopping area -- one in the QFC grocery the the other across the parking lot. This is a small town but we're just north of Starbucks central --- Seattle.
LTG
(216 posts)Probably between 30 and 40, possibly more. But then I live in the northern part of Seattle. Then there are also the Seattle's Best coffee places, also owned by Starbucks albeit with different style roasting. That would up the count a little. They also have some tea shops within that radius.
Across the street, or in the same shopping center? How about two in the same building? All can be found more than once in Seattle.

(25,183 posts)And I live in Rockland County, NY. People around here think that Dunkin' Donuts coffee is something special, and there are at least 11 of them in a five mile radius.
Folks back in the Pacific Northwest (where I moved from six years ago) laugh when I tell them about NY'ers preference for DD coffee, but I remind them that people from this area get a chuckle out of their thinking that the Olive Garden is a great Italian restaurant.

(36,440 posts)Years ago, I was working a job in San Francisco and had a chance to step out on a balcony and take a look around. I counted them, nine Starbucks down below me, and I was only looking east. What the hell is the deal with Starbucks? My beat-up thermos full of Graffeo dark roasted coffee smokes anything Starbucks produces.

(10,237 posts)Aren't they working against each other by opening up so many and destroying the chances of Ma & Pa coffee houses ?
The San Fernando Valley was never a cultural mecca but now it has 1/2 a dozen Barnes & Nobles and about 6 trillion Starbuck's .
Since Reagan the valley makes the days of "valley girls " seem like the golden area of art and wisdom .
There are very few franchises, that I know of. Virtually all stand alone stores are company owned, even in foreign countries. There are some licensed outlets inside other grocery and bookstore chains.
The closest I know of to a franchise was in Hawaii where the shops were operated by a different company, but a don't know what the legal nature of their relationship was. They were converted to company stores several years ago.
Besides the Starbucks coffee shops, Tazo Tea shops, Seattle Best Coffee shops, they are now opening juice bars under the name Evolution. They also purchased another tea company recently.
The Coffee business must be good. Amazing since so many people say they don't drink it.
