Napa, CA braces for five-day rock festival

BottleRock — wine country’s inaugural entry in the rock ‘n’ roll festival business — is here.

A massive five-day music festival, BottleRock Napa Valley opens at the 26-acre Napa Valley Expo tonight with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis delivering offbeat and serious messages buoyed by fun, danceable music. Their “Thrift Shop,” an ode to secondhand swag, has sold more than 2 million downloads and is on its way to rack up 100 million views on YouTube.

SNIP

While tonight’s festival preview at the Expo — along with a late-night event at the Uptown Theatre — is expected to attract about 8,000 people, the weekend attendance at BottleRock is expected to reach, if not surpass, 35,000 when the Kings of Leon roll into town over the weekend along with the Black Keys, the Zac Brown Band, the Flaming Lips and Jackson Browne.

We've never had anything quite like this in the center of town. Public resources are maxed out. Hope it's safe, sane and fun event.

Avetts close tomorrow night. Bob Weir is doing something to take care of a problem that manifested itself last week when he toppled over on stage.

I'm recommending Mavis, always. Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis are really fun and musical and I'd see them as well...
