Related: About this forum95 degrees right now at 3 in the afternoon in Arroyo Grande, CA.
For those of you who don't know where this is, it's close to Pismo Beach. This is way hotter than we are accustomed to because it's close to the ocean and is supposed to be cooler than inland. Anyone else finding the climate where they are unseasonably hot?

(28,810 posts)back in the 90s. i remember for at least 3 weeks that summer it topped over 100 every single day. my car had an overheating problem and we'd be driving down the hot freeway in the heat with the heater on to keep the engine from blowing up. i always thought i deserved like, battle pay or something for enduring those hot, hot days. had the best tan of my life though - even though i could not lay in the sun longer than 5 minutes before i had to jump into the jacuzzi to cool off.
stay indoors with a/c on you be okay.

(53,339 posts)Just opening the door a crack lets in a furnace blast. Hoping the power holds up. Thursday they had outages in H'wood and Chatsworth...

(28,810 posts)my sister had all these tricks for staying cool without the a/c, and since at the time i was living on her generosity i had to respect that. you could open the windows in the early morning and by 9 or ten, close them up and lower the shades. the best thing though was the cold showers. i'd step out of the cold shower directly into my bathing suit. no toweling off. they also had misters on the patio and the jacuzzi was unheated. when i had to run to the store was the worst - i put a thermometer inside my car and it broke. it had to be at least 130 inside that car after several minutes in the parking lot. i could barely touch the gear shift it was so hot.

(28,810 posts)and looked up Death Valley and Palm Springs on the weather channel. 124 and 120 respectively. I'm in NC and the weather sucks here because of the humidity but it rarely tops 100. over 110 i don't believe i could bear it. the hottest i've ever been in is Apole Valley many, many years ago (like almost 50) and it was 118. i was a child so maybe it didn't bother me all that much but somehow i have never forgotten. 118 in the shade.
my sister in law put a picture of their weather up on facebook. 93 degrees - they're in Morro Bay.
stay as cool as you can!

(26,603 posts)Looks like AG is warmer than the coast in either direction - Santa Maria is a bit cooler than that as well for some reason. The wind is from the NW, maybe AG is just missing the sea breeze behind the hills down there.
I kept waiting for the power to go out, since everyone who could probably flipped on the AC today - but so far not a hiccup...

(36,458 posts)We're at 104 right now. They tell us it's going the be hot for five more days, or so, then our delta breeze kicks back in; hot in the day, cool in the evenings.

(78,249 posts)100 freakin' degrees Fahrenheit in San Jose. Yes, we are in the Bay Area. No AC, either.

(6,292 posts)I need to turn it off, and let the water fill for 20 minutes or so and then turn it back on....but it only cools 15 f from what the air is, so at 110, the air blowing is still 95 f.....
Normally, it is a great low energy solution to the heat......

(3,998 posts)when I was out a couple hours ago. Claremont hit 110! This is still June!

(6,292 posts)already 89 at 9:30 am here in the Capay Valley (little valley west of the Sacramento Valley) and it is supposed to get to 111 today. Oh my, and for the next two days as well. Very bad heat wave!
