http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Experts-tell-Californians-to-prepare-for-fourth-6018730.phpThe storms that brought some of the biggest downpours of the decade have given way to a dry January and renewed fears that California will languish in yet another parched year.
Californians should brace themselves for a fourth year of drought, said Mark Cowin, director of the state Department of Water Resources. We need a lot more rain and snow to pull us out of this drought, and unfortunately very little is on the horizon.
State drinking water supplies remain far below normal. Farms are hard up for water. So are fish, mountain lions and bears. And Mother Nature doesnt seem to want to cooperate as forecasters raised the possibility this week that parts of the state, including San Francisco, could see a January without rain for the first time in recorded history.

I had to dump my dentist because he was a science hater, gave me nitrous for free too
but when he assured me climate change was a hoax, I found a new dentist.
The same group that were paid to deny cigarettes link to cancer are working to deny climate change and if ONE person reading this believes that nonsense, I wanna hear about it.

(106,886 posts)The feds, state, city and volunteers spent a decade rehabilitating, revitalizing the creek as a habitat for steelhead trout and a number of seasonal frog species. Plus, it's course through the city is a gem for locals and tourists alike.
It's spring fed at the upper reaches yet needs the annual rain to clean out the watershed, keep the pools full (trout cluster there) and maintain the whole ecosystem. Feb / March may be critical. Locally, not only for the creek but local agriculture, and statewide, surely.

Not that that would end the drought. Wasn't there an article recently that said we'd still have a drought even if it rained everyday?

Very odd that SF would miss out on rain. Usually it is the other way around! Hope we get rain soon. Just not too much too fast as that would cause other problems as I'm sure you know all too well.

The weather was nice this evening, though.

Crowds gathered around the produce stands at Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, buying up flowers, carrots, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and other fruits and vegetables....
Some of the growers were pulling land out of production because of the drought or relying on wells and other sources of water rather than the sky and the clouds.
