REMEMBER? November 18, 2019 What happened to fall? Washington is having its coldest November

in decades.

From shorts weather to sweater weather with little buffer in between, it’s been a strange fall. And it almost seems we’ve skipped ahead straight to winter.

This November, more than 6 degrees colder than average, ranks as the chilliest in the Washington region since 1995. Temperatures have been below average on all but three days.

Some of our recent Decembers haven’t even been this cold (over the first 17 days of the month). And these temperatures more closely resemble what you’d expect in Pittsburgh during November, according to the Southeast Regional Climate Center.

On average, we don’t see temperatures this cold over a 17-day stretch until starting around Nov. 19. In others words, the sustained chilly weather has arrived about three weeks early.

You’re not crazy if it feels like a shock, as there’s been little time to acclimate. This abnormally cold weather follows an October that ranked as the seventh-warmest on record, including an all-time high of 98, and the third-warmest September (with nine 90-degree days) on record before that.

Just 42 days separated the record high of 98 on Oct. 2 and the low of 26 on Nov. 13 — representing the shortest distance between such fall temperature extremes on record (by more than two weeks).>>>
