Where Can I Get Recommendations On Voting?

I'm trying to find out who best represents the democratic values that we all share as well as someone who can decipher the "issues" that are always written as to confuse people to vote against their own better interests-republicans are good at that subterfuge and cheating stuff-especially as we Palm Beach County Floridians know all too well. I just came back from the PBC Democratic Party office and one of the the kids told me that no one there can give out that kind of information. Anybody know who can? I have 10 loyal democrats here that can use a little help with these August 30th primary votes.

We have to go into this knowing that if we DON'T cast primary votes the republican operatives will purge our names off the November rolls-they work that way around here. Take it from a 2000 Gore supporter who was purged and not allowed to vote that day. I vowed that I would never again let that happen to me-let THEM do that to ME. I'll walk through 100° heat to vote for a dog catcher if I have to.

Your state's Sec of State's web site should list all the state-wide and federal offices up for election, plus all the state referendums judgeships, bond measures, if there are any. The League of Women voters in your state can tell you where to get info about elections in your county and city. Elections for county commissioners, city councils, board of education, county judges, district attorneys, sheriff, mayor, city bond and county bond measures are all important. Send you Dem county chairperson an email asking for help in finding info about elections in your area. Before primaries, Dem county chairs don't recommend a specific person because they are supposed to be fair to all the Dem candidates. But after the primaries are over, your Dem county chair person should be able to help you.

I got mine last week and researched the races I can vote in. If you didn't get one, you can see sample ballots here: http://www.pbcelections.org/content.aspx?id=291

You also might want to check on your voting status - if your registration has lapsed you still have time to register to vote in the General Election. Check here: http://registration.elections.myflorida.com/CheckVoterStatus

Some information about candidates is available at the Supervisor of Elections web site as well as other voting information: http://www.pbcelections.org/default.aspx?s=1

The League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County has some voter information that can help you see where candidates stand on important issues:
http://lwvpbc.org/

No one place had enough information on the candidates here in Leon County so I googled the candidates, read their campaign sites, read articles about the races, and did some research on their backgrounds. It didn't take all that long to figure out who I wanted to vote for. I've marked my sample ballot, but I usually type up a "cheat sheet" to take into the booth with me - it makes it easier and faster to vote.
