Judge delays passing sentence on ex-U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, 2 others
Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Browns sentence for fraud and tax charges wont be announced until Dec. 4, the judge handling her case said Sunday.
Sentences for her former chief of staff, Ronnie Simmons, and the president of a bogus charity she raised money for will also be delayed until then, but hearings for all three will be held as planned Wednesday and Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan said in an order dated Sunday that he would take information from the upcoming hearings under advisement and reconvene Brown, Simmons and One Door for Education President Carla Wiley at 10 a.m. on Dec. 4 to announce his decision.
Brown, a Jacksonville Democrat who was in Congress 24 years, was convicted in May of 18 felonies involving conspiracy, mail and wire fraud, concealing income and filing false tax returns. Prosecutors told jurors that tens of thousands of dollars in cash had been moved from One Doors bank account to Browns account, often by Simmons.
