Construction company tried to hide that it cheated workers out of $111,000 in pay
A Florida metal framing construction company owes 100 workers $111,197 in back pay after getting caught not paying overtime and trying to conceal it with shady bookkeeping, the Department of Labor announced Friday.
Instead of paying time-and-a-half for overtime, the department explained, Winter Garden company KBL Buildings would pay just extra $3 per hour. Thats the crime. Heres the cover-up.
The employer attempted to conceal the violation on the payroll by labeling the straight-time payment as travel, and the $3 per hour as per diem payments, the Department of Labor release said.
