Burger King customers in Florida tell Puerto Rican manager to ‘go back to Mexico’ for speaking Spanish

EUSTIS, Fla. — A video of a heated interaction at a Eustis Burger King is making its way around social media.

A woman posted a video July 6 of two older women arguing with a Burger King manager about him speaking Spanish to another employee. The video eventually was shared on the Mt. Dora/Eustis Word of Mouth Facebook page and now has more than 17,000 views.

“This is America,” one of the women can be heard saying. “Our main language is English ... Speak your Mexican at home.”

The general manager, Ricardo Castillo, can be seen in the video ordering the women to leave the restaurant after telling them they were being prejudiced, disrespectful and ignorant.

I worked with at an answering service with a co-worker like the above-referenced customer. But she'd admonish, "This is America. Speak American."

most of Florida. Still a very red county with a growing minority population, especially Hispanic.

St. Augustine is the oldest Western settlement in the USA -- from 1565 -- by Spain.

And surprise, surprise, there are Spanish-speaking people there ??

When I went to high school in NW FL, I had plenty of mestiza/o classmates. No one, and I mean no one, made a big deal out of it. It was just the way things had been for centuries (LITERALLY). (No, it wasn't because of Cuban immigrants, though there are plenty in South FL.)

Of course MAGAts don't know any of that -- or that most of the SW USA was Spanish territory for a few centuries -- then Mexican for a few decades more. They've been speaking Spanish there for longer than that territory has been part of the USA.

I am so glad I do not live in that state, but I do live in a "RED" zone in California. I think this manager had the respect of the owner, and he did the "right" thing. I am so happy that there are over 50 million Hispanics in this country. We are in every state. Soon the white man will be just another minority. Hispanics now have blue eyes, light hair, white skin, & tall. We have always been smart. CHEERS
