Police: First grader behind 911 hoax at school

CLEARWATER --

Clearwater Police say a Belleair Elementary first grader falsely reported an active shooting at the school on February 26.

The school was placed on lockdown while police checked the premises.

They also say the 7-year-old confessed to making a total of nine hoax phone calls prior to and following the shooting call.

Police also say the student called 911 the next day to report a deceased person in the roadway. This was also determined to be a hoax.

The juvenile was released to a parent and charges of misuse of 911 have been referred to the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney's Office.
