Peregrine Took

A while back we were driving back to Chicago from NC and wanted to visit Golconda, ILL...

We went through Padukah, Ky on the interstate and saw a sign "Golconda, Il 20 miles north. OK!
So we drove the required 20 miles north, got some gas and then looked around for a sign to Golconda....found one "Golconda, 20 miles south&quot !!!) What?
So we drove 20 miles back south from whence we had come....and found the pleasant, sleepy little town.
Can anyone explain the weird route?

a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Twilight Zone. Or maybe Golconda, IL.

That's gotta be it.

It appears only once every hundred years.

The real question is: why would anyone want to go to Golconda, IL?

When we drove the 20 back south there should have been ANOTHER sign saying....Golconda - 20 miles north again - back and forth til we wear our the tires and grow (more) grey hair.
