Poll shows nearly 60 percent of marijuana users drive high

Nearly six in ten people who use recreational cannabis in states where it is legal drive while high, according to polling.

Insurance comparison site The Zebra polled more than 800 marijuana users that live in states where it’s legal to use recreationally. Fifty-nine percent said they drive while under the influence.

Market insight director Alyssa Connolly said the anonymous responses from those polled show that the some based their decision to drive on how they felt at the time.

“Some of those people said that they do it regularly even though they know that they are impaired,” she said.

Never known anybody to fall over on the ground from weed for example. Might miss your turnoff, or ponder the deeper meaning of a green light though!

It's pretty minor as far as "impairment" goes, certainly not in the same league as valium, alcohol or painkillers. It's just not. I'm more worried about ragers on stimulants out there on the road than someone who's had a toke or two.

It's a continuum.

decided to ditch his weed before being caught, so his passenger dumped it as fast as possible. Weed often messes with one's sense of time.

When finally pulled over, he learned that his "high speed chase" took place at 15 miles an hour, which is why he attracted cop attention in the first place.

As far as impairment goes, I remember from my occasional experiences of smoking weed as a young woman that I would lose time: I would become aware of brief moments of having been completely unaware of anything. I don't think having repeated moments of total obliviousness counts as being "less impaired" as a driver, since even the time lost when glancing at a cell phone can lead to catastrophic accidents!

Now that really works your time/space continuum into a new dimension.
