Well I see Iowa gets another casino!

pretty soon, every iowan can have one in their backyard.
I only care because for every $ the casino makes, the state has to pick up the tab for another broken home, lost job or some other social ill.
That is what is known as "externalizing costs." The rich get the profit, we pay the social costs.

I don't gamble - part of the reason is that I don't want to give those blood suckers a nickel. They already fuck us over badly enough.

If the Republican party were truly a party of morality, the first thing they would do is shut down gambling establishments.

I believe a person has a choice whether to gamble their hard earned money or abstain.

My dilemma is the person who gambles and can not stop until her(his) paycheck, ss check, borrowed money is completely depleted.
I had no idea that casinos enable this behavior by agreeing to cash advances on a credit card, write post dated checks and other shady ways to get your money.

And I haven't seen any recent studies, but back @2000 Minnesota did a study that showed for every $ the casino netted the state paid out $1.09 in additional social services that were not needed before legalizing gambling.

And like I said, the "gaming industry" are blood suckers.

Well...this couple may dispute what we think.

Sorry, my link is broken.

A couple won over 7.2 million on a penny slot machine in MS a few weeks ago.

But for everyone of them, millions lose millions and billions.

Four if one counts the one in Clinton. And the one here in Davenport is not doing well, so the city is talking about taking over ownership of said casino. I hit the mother of all pot holes the other day, so I want the holes fixed before any casino investment. There is such a thing as overexposure and here we have it.

Can't drive without hitting a pot hole, unless you weave all over the place. They really need to do a better job maintaining roads around here.

Can't believe the city is talking of buying a casino.
About the stupidest use of public funds I have ever heard of.

I wonder how Tama, Riverside, Dubuque, and Davenport will be affected?

Ridiculous.

Support for one passed overwhelmingly in Northwest IA a couple years ago. In the second most republican county in IA.

All they saw was the casino giving money to local organizations and schools. It's like bizarro-world.
