Iowa governor Terry Branstad hosted a gathering of the Family Leader, a subsidiary of the Family Research Council (FRC) in Ames yesterday. The FRC has been labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, for its strident anti-LGBT rhetoric
Matt Sinovic of Progress Iowa tweeted from the event yesterday here:

This one tweet pretty well summarizes the tone of the conference:
10:49 AM CT: "It could be a very dark time" if we don't use government to follow God's will, says Vander Plaats.
I have a take on the hate fest at blogforiowa here:

Kochs got your tongue Joni? Campaign staff tired of primary Joni vs. general election Joni? Forgot to mention your gun?? It would be very hard for Joni to make a headline with the national champion loons assembled there.

(62,460 posts)due to the nature of the event and the notoriety of the participants. Sure wish I knew how to contact Rachel Maddow. She is pretty good on LGBT stuff and this may be in her wheelhouse.

Unfortunately the re-entry into Iraq and the happenings in Ferguson came along.
Rand Paul is taking some heat for skipping out of the hate-fest, BTW
