Brainfart's Medicaid scheme problems

Oh gee what a surprise.

More than three months after the statewide privatization of Medicaid, area providers and patients say they still are struggling with payment issues and inconsistency with services.

Jon Romaine, executive director of Area Residential Care, said the Dubuque nonprofit has observed multiple complications since a trio of managed-care organizations took over Iowa’s Medicaid program April 1.

“It has been real confusing, not only for the providers, but also for consumers of Medicaid services — especially those who have disabilities,” he said. “The transition occurred too quickly and we are dealing with the problems while they (the state and the MCOs) are trying to fix everything.”

Another complication emerged Friday, when union representatives complained that many in-home care providers in Iowa’s Consumer Directed Attendant Care program are not being paid for their services.

There was no reason to do this privatization. People were very happy with IA Medicaid. It was well-run. Doctors & patients liked it.

Bumstead comes with his $50+ million savings # (with nothing to back it up)...Des Moines Register looks into it and finds out it's going to be far less than that. Regardless of the savings (if there are indeed savings), how do you get savings without cutting services? The private co's aren't going to run with lower overhead costs than the state did. Savings come from not covering things that were covered before.

People aren't going to be happy with the 3 MCO's. But what does Bumstead care. He & his cronies get the kickbacks/connections/jobs they need out of it.
