2. That is ridiculous!!! Do you have specific incidents/names???

Can you tell me what exactly is going on? Is this happening at all precincts?

Iowa law clearly says that in order to VOTE you do not need ID. You just need to give the poll worker your name.

This seems to be in clear violation of Iowa law. And in Iowa city, nonetheless!!!!

Iowa City is 90 percent liberal, and those University of Iowa college students are nearly all liberal. It sounds like bullshit is happening there.

I have connections to officials high up in Iowa government and I have spoken to them about their efforts to ensure that attorneys are all Iowa polling locations, trying to fend off shennanigans like this. Can you please give me more details. If this is happening it needs to be stopped now. Please let me know what you know!

10. Did these voters leave the polls without voting???
Tue Nov 6, 2012, 01:29 PM
Nov 2012

Thank you for any info!

If you know these people, tell them that they need to return to the polling place. All they have to do is give their name, address--and they are located on the voter rolls. They are crossed off, then they vote.

That's it!!

NOW--if they are REGISTERING TO VOTE, that's different. They need to show ID.

Thanks for any info you can give me. I will pass this along and it will be taken seriously. Please post any info that you have--if you have names of poll workers, etc.

Are you misunderstanding the information given to the hotline.

Regardless--those polling workers need to be put on notice that students voting in Iowa City do not have to prove that they are students. If they are registered to vote, they don't need squat.

He ran into problems this morning at precinct 13. Had to start quoting state laws & eventually called county auditor because of issues at the polls this morning in Polk Co.

13. Did your hubby report this? Was this a poll worker who was misinforming your hubby...

...or was this someone else, like a "True the Vote" person talking smack and lying?

This needs to be reported to the proper authorities.

I noticed in the 04 and 08 elections, there was concerted and significant efforts to screw with Polk County, Iowa City and Ames voters. These are the areas of high concentrations of Dem voters.

This just pisses me off so bad. They are all about suppression and Romney and Co are a bunch of thugs.

We have to be proactive about this. We have to report these things. Otherwise, they will continue to do this and not everyone is an attorney like your husband! Can you imagine what is happening in the precincts where there are large numbers of Hispanics, or in areas where lower-income people vote? I don't even want to think about it!

I am reporting this Iowa City library situation. I'm calling the auditor in Iowa City and also the Obama campaign. Someone needs to go over to this polling location and put these thugs on notice!! Put an attorney in there, I say--We must stop them!!!!!

I will be happy to call in your husband's situation, in Polk County. I know that the Dems have attorneys all over the state today, and maybe one of them should check out precinct 13--and be there all day.

9. Call the county Johnson county auditor
Tue Nov 6, 2012, 01:22 PM
Nov 2012

Here is the Johnson County auditors number - pass along to any other students having problems

Phone: (319) 356-6004 FAX: (319) 356-6086
Mailing address: 913 S. Dubuque St., Suite 101, Iowa City, IA 52240

Also, let the local Obama campaign office know. They are keeping track of this and if the vote is contested these reports will be important.

14. Ok, I just called the auditor in Iowa City---and told them about this...
Tue Nov 6, 2012, 01:53 PM
Nov 2012

My call was escalated to a deputy auditor. This person is going to call the downtown Iowa City library polling location and let them know that a voter was told that they had to prove that they lived in the dorms--when this is a violation of Iowa law.

The deputy auditor with whom I spoke--said that often poll workers ASSUME THAT STUDENTS COMING INTO VOTE ARE NOT REGISTERED. SO THE POLL WORKER WILL TELL THEM THEY NEED ID, OR PROOF OF ADDRESS TO VOTE. This is legal!!!

You can register TODAY at your polling location, but you must have an ID and proof of address to register today, BUT YOU DO NOT NEED ID OR PROOF OF LOCATION TO VOTE.

Please understand these differences. Just wanted to make that clear.

The good news is--that downtown Iowa City location was put on notice.

Thank you, Rambis for reporting this here!! People will help you. Please let us know if you need more info about voting or if you are confused about requirements, etc. Ok!
