State Police Commissioner Calvin Braxton resigns; calls investigation allegations 'unfounded'
Less than a week after a WWL-TV investigation revealed Louisiana State Police Commissioner Calvin Braxton allegedly used his position to fix tickets and intimidate a state trooper, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Braxton's resignation Friday, according to a WWL-TV report.
"I believe he made the right decision," Edwards said in a statement accepting Braxton's resignation. "Public officials must hold themselves to the highest ethical standard, and I will accept nothing less as we consider a replacement on the commission."
Braxton called WWL-TV's allegations "unfounded" in a statement also released by the governor's office Friday.
"As a family man, my first priority is to my family and I do not wish for them to have to deal with continuous attacks by the media and others," Braxton said.
