Why is Maryland shaped like that??? Why is Delaware shaped like that??
It's all because of a land dispute with Pennsylvania that escalated into a small war in the 1730s and wasn't fully resolved until Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon completed their 5-year-long land survey in October of 1767. The result was the Mason-Dixon line, whose legacy as a boundary would long outlive its creators.
