Somerville’s Planting 575 New Trees This Month
Its part of a big push to bring 2,000 new trees to the citys sidewalks by 2015.
Residents wont have to travel to a nearby park in order to enjoy the foliage in Somerville.
As part of a push to beautify the citys sidewalks, and create an urban landscape thats easy on the eyes, city officials announced they are in the midst of planting 575 new trees all around Somerville during the month of July.
Its a big project, its definitely going to be a big impact on the city, said Rachel Kelly, Somervilles Green Infrastructure Planner. Its been going quickly, they are moving pretty fast. Its been great. One of the big reasons we wanted to do this was because of how important trees are to our health and our welfare. Somerville is surrounded by highways to a degree, and a big part of this is we need these because its a quality-of-life benefit.
