Pilgrim relicensing at hand despite NRC chief's denial

Outgoing chairmain Grefory Haczko voted against a recommendation to issue a relicensing for Pilgrim Nuke Plant for
another 20 years.

He voices concerns regarding its safety, But sounds like he is being forced out for his stance.

Mary Lampert of Pilgrim Watch belives so too. "All the NRC commissioners, except Jaczko, have caved to industry and political pressure and abandoned the NRC's own procedure that requires hearings on a license renewal application are completed before license renewal is granted"

Jaczkp's vote was announced even as the reactor remained offline Thursday, 2 days after it was shut down because of an improperly closed valve and in the midst of heated negotiations between Entergy, the plants owner and the union that represents its employees.

In the midst of the flurry of activitiy, President Obama on Thursday nominated George Mason University associate professor of environmental science and policy Allison Macarlane to replace Jaczko as chairman of the NRC.
