US Sen. Elizabeth Warren offers bill to provide military health treatment access to terrorism victim

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, introduced legislation this week that seeks to give domestic terrorism victims access to treatments at appropriate military health care facilities.

The bill, which looks to honor the work of Boston Marathon bombing survivors Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, would accelerate care for terrorism victims' traumatic injuries, while allowing military treatment facilities to maintain military medical readiness and provide training opportunities, according to the senator's office.

It calls on the Department of Defense, in consultation with the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies, to create procedures to promptly contact, coordinate and provide medical expertise to local health care facilities treating terrorism-related injuries.

Warren's office noted that treatment under the legislation would be provided on a space available and fully reimbursable basis, in accordance with DOD instruction.
