Restored USS Constitution, the world's oldest warship, returning to Boston waters

After 26 months in dry dock, the world's oldest commissioned warship, the USS Constitution, will float again and move into Boston Harbor as restoration work continues.

Officials said "Old Ironsides" will undock Sunday from the Charlestown Navy Yard Historical Park around 4:15 p.m. and enter Boston Harbor around 11:30 p.m.

The ship, first launched in 1797, underwent a 26-month, $12-15 million restoration job, by naval crew members. Work included the installation of more than 2,200 copper sheets and the replacement of hull planks.

The vessel will then be temporarily docked at a nearby pier. It will remain there until September, undergo more restoration and then reopen for public tours.

I haven't heard of it being in the water. The last I heard of it, it was permanently in drydock, being preserved as a museum ship.

The Constitution is still in active use by the American Navy, for training. One of my relatives was stationed on it for a while.
