Rex Trailer has died.

Boom! Boom! Boomtown!

Rex Trailer, host of “Boomtown,” a Western-themed children’s TV show that beguiled generations of New England children, has died, according to an announcement posted on his website.

“Rex Trailer left this earth peacefully last night surrounded in love and song by his family. Rex had been in Florida for the holidays when he became ill into the New Year. While everyone’s prayers and support have been of great comfort to Rex, he decided it was time to go home. Rex and family thank all of you and love you,” said the announcement, which was dated today.

The site said a memorial service was being planned for the “near future” and the family requested privacy.

The Globe reported in early January that Trailer, 84, was recovering from a bout of pneumonia...

The first nationally syndicated Bozo was outta Boston, a guy named Frank Avruch--he got teased forever, even when he went on to host the late movie show...! They're selling the episodes on DVD, so someone's laughing all the way to the bank..!

In the 1960's, before cable TV came along, Frank Avruch became television's first nationally-syndicated Bozo The Clown. From New York to Los Angeles, Frank could be seen on TV sets with his pals Professor Tweedy Foofer, Mr. Lion, Kookie The Kangaroo, Grandma Nellie, Zany Zebra and Klank The Tin Can Man. Sixty of the original shows telecast in color from WHDH TV in Boston in the mid-60's have just been released on DVD ....

I'll bet you were the most popular kid in the neighborhood!!!

You know, I see clips of him in color, but we didn't have color television, so he's a black-n-white memory for me!

I notice that people I thought were "way older" are close to my age, too!

And I look at some old farts on the tee vee and am shocked to find out they are YOUNGER than me!

I think there's a reason why the eyes go first--we look so much better in the mirror when we don't see quite so much detail!!!

I was 10 are now dead. They were 10-20 years older than me then, now they're dead.

I'm planning on living til 110, but most of those other folks must have planned for living only to 80.
