I'm against casinos on principle.

But it will ruin some lives that may well have never been ruined. I also am against this on principle.

When there was only Vegas many people in this country never even gave a thought to going gambling. Easy access has ruined many people.

That will add so much to the economy.

Yes, they could have stayed in CT, but all that means is that people with gambling problems feed their addictions someplace else.

Also, even if there are no casinos, there are still people spending tons of money on lottery/Powerball tickets. My mom lives in FL, where they don't have Keno, so when she comes up here, she always plays.

People who want to gamble on greyhound racing can go to NH. Actually, I have a bigger problem with greyhound racing than I do with casinos. What happens with those dogs is not pretty, and I do not believe in exploitation of animals for any purpose where they could be injured or killed or mistreated in any way.

As for the jobs factor...yes. Someone who's been out of work for months and months, unable to afford basic necessities, not getting health coverage...I'm not going to judge that person for where s/he works.

The bad part is such easy access, imho.

Just like you, I would never judge a person due to a job.

My sister lives in Port St Lucie, FL and every time I go there for a visit we go to these little Parlor/Halls (don't know what they are called) and we play Keno on Keno slot machines. We both enjoy playing Keno. Where in FL does your mom live? Maybe it's a county thing or something.

But no one will be going anywhere in New England to gamble on greyhound racing as far as I know ....

Good. I'm glad.

My mom lives in Winter Springs. I don't know if it's a county thing or what, but she does say she can't play it down there, so when she comes up here, she's almost obsessed with it, and refuses to go to a restaurant, etc. unless they also have Keno.


As for the casinos up here, I heard the other day that over 5,000 jobs will be created (divided between non-permanent construction and regular casino employment).

I'm not a gambler myself, really. I mean, I had been to the track in NH years ago but only bet $2 each race on about four races.

Have been to Foxwoods once, and didn't even bother spending money in the casino itself, not even to play Bingo. I lurked in the shops, feeding my own addiction...

read with my quick read of the article was to which area this would be considered. Is it the East area and if it is then good luck not getting a casino. Boston has a big lead on that one. If it is the West area, that would be very east for west for MA.
