Protesters play dead outside Michigan Capitol to spur gun law discussion
LANSING, MI People were lying on the ground in the area where lawmakers walk to work at the Michigan State Capitol, hoping their still bodies would spur action, Linda Brundage of the Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence said.
"Hopefully they have to walk over us or around us in a similar kind of way they've walked around the citizens of Michigan who want background checks, child access prevention laws, they don't want guns in schools," Brundage said.
She said she joined protesters Wednesday, Sept. 7, lying outside the Michigan Capitol Building, along with a coffin and fake blood meant to remind lawmakers of the victims of gun violence.
The point is to get the attention of legislators as they return from summer break f, Brundage said, especially State Rep. Klint Kesto, R-Commerce Township, chair of the House Committee on Judiciary.
