On Trump's divisive policies, Michigan GOP fails to lead

There had been a large number of Republican officials prodigiously following and cheering the Donald Trump horse this campaign – either out of party fealty or, worse, belief in his rank ideas and utterances.

Now, even the faithful seem to smell the manure.

What Donald Trump said about women, in a leaked conversation from 2005, wasn’t lewd. It was an embrace of foul sexual aggression, a celebration of the idea that women are objects to be groped and fondled without consent. It was far from Trump’s first offense in this realm. But it was the most grating.

In advance of Sunday night's debate, the condemnations and recriminations about his candidacy were everywhere.
