Remember the story of Peanut, the rescue dog that rescued a 3 year old girl?

Some background:

"Once named Petunia, the dog was brought to the shelter last April with two broken legs, broken ribs and a stomach full of carpet. The former owner was recently convicted of animal abuse, the shelter said.. "

"The woman, who wasn't identified, said that her dog "started going crazy at our house. She was running up and down the stairs, barking and yelping."

The dog then went into the garage, where the woman's husband was working on a project. The dog alerted him that it wanted to go outside. The husband had heard the dog running around but couldn't figure out why. He let her outside and she went barreling into the field behind our house at full speed," she wrote.

"My husband followed her and to his surprise, he found a naked, shivering, 3 year old girl curled up in a ball barely alive.""

The rights of the parents have been terminated.

"It is in the best interest of each child that the parental rights be terminated and no further efforts be made to reunite the children with their parents. The court finds that each parent poses a significant risk to these children and the court has no confidence that the department (DHHS) or anybody else is capable of making them or their home safe for the children ever to return to."

"The court finds one or both of the parents intentionally placed (girl's name) outside of their home in 30 to 32 degree weather. If only one parent did so the second parent, at a minimum, knew of this fact and did nothing to prevent it and (they have) consistently lied to protect one another."

"I'm going to order that they pay what they have been paying for cigarettes and monster drinks once a week to the court to pay for the foster care of the children. That's a $168 a week."

Peanut was honored back in May:

" A special resident of Rapid River was rewarded on Friday for her heroic efforts. State Representative Beau LaFave made the presentation.

The hero?: Peanut the dog. She was put in the spotlight for finding a little girl freezing and naked in a field in Rapid River in March. "

Thanks for the update. That little rescue dog, Peanut, was a hero. And thank goodness her owners followed her instincts and found that little girl.

I am glad she got a good home. I hope those abused children will be just as fortunate. Hopefully those "parents" never have any more children.
